Decorating - The final step!
After the cookies came out and cooled off, I decorated! I put the icing on a few different cookies, to find that a little does a lot. I then placed a few pieces of lavender on my cookies, then sprinkled the edible glitter on (this part was VERY messy). Then, I put a few sprinkles on the cookie. Out of all of them, I think this one came out the best. They not only looked good, but they tasted great too, with the perfect ratio of lemon in them!
Baking
The cookies were ready to go in! During this time, I planned what I would do with my decorations and how I would put it on the cookies
Getting the cookies ready to go in the oven
As the dough got warmer, it got stickier so it was hard to roll the dough out. My mom helped me with this part. When we finished putting them all down, they were all the same size and ready to go in the oven!
Preparing the decarations
For the decorations, I used lavender from our garden. This was me picking it off the stem. The other decorations I used were edible glitter and other sprinkles. However, the glitter was very messy
Making the icing
While the dough chilled, I made the icing. The icing was originally from a website, but I wanted to get creative. I took powdered sugar and lemon juice and mixed it to make the perfect consistency for icing.
Making the batter
There were three different ingredients in three different bowls, and we eventually added it all together to make the batter. It was really sticky and runny, but we read that we had to cool the dough first. After we took it out, the batter wasn't sticky anymore
Getting ingredients out/starting to bake
This is me zesting a lemon for my lemon cookies. We realized that we only had one lemon at room temp, so the other lemons were hard to zest. Instead, we used lemon extract as a substitute and I think it came out well.
